Welcome to the Saint Mark "Syrtaki of Boca" Hellenic Dance Group Web Site

SAINT MARK'S SYRTAKI OF BOCA is part of the Saint Mark Greek Orthodox Church Community in Boca Raton, Florida. Our group was founded in 1993, and since that time our many friends and families have enjoyed countless performances of traditional Greek Folk Dancing. We have several groups of dancers ranging from 10 years old and to the college years and beyond. In addition, we have a performing group that has mastered many of the basic Greek Folk Dances, and also perform many advanced variations as well as the more difficult Dances. The Performing Group takes this a step further by traveling to various locations not only to learn advanced steps, but to perform competitively as well.

Greece is one of the few countries in the world where the folk dances are as alive today as they were in ancient times. Dance has always played an important role in the life of a Greek. It is an expression of human feelings and everyday life and almost every dance has a story to tell.

Below you will find a partial list of the folk dances that have been performed by our Syrtaki Dancers

Thrace/Macedonian Suite These regions are rich in culture with variations in hand holding positions. Dances are lively and typically move with unity and without any leadership improvisations.
